Suppose the average price of gas is $2.08. You are dividing by a gas station and see gas. for the price of $1.88, Which was not part of the average of $2.08. If you averaged this number in with the rest of the gas stations, what will happen to the average price of gas?

Answer :

Average is HIGHER than the new gas station price.

If we included this into the average, the average would have been lowered.

Note:

If we had a lot of values, then the average would have been lowered by a lessened amount than if we were to have really less values.

Average = 2.08

New Value = 1.88

The new value is LESS than the average, so including it into the calculation would make the average LOWER.
