Let the number of candies he has at the start of his movie-watching binge be x

If he ate 1/2 of the candies during the first movie, the remaining will be 1/2 x

If he ate 1/3 of the remaining candies, the number of candles he ate = 1/3(1/2)x = 1/6x

If during the third movie, he ate only 1/4 of the candies he had left, the amount ate = 1/4(5/6)x = 5/24 x

The amount remaining = 19/24 x = 24

19x = 24 * 24

x = 30

Hence the number of  candies he has at the start of his movie-watching binge is 30 candies
