I feel like the first step is putting up some sort of roofing on the branches with tarp. After, hollowing out the inside of the tree would be ideal. With the extra wood, build a door. Now you're protected from the weather! I'd add windows and lanterns outside, along with any knick knacks I saved from my old house. The outside could include a small farm.
