in the beginning of the novel montag was a firefighter who burned books & never worried why he was burning them. Until he sees an old woman dies without letting anyone take her books. it made him curious, he wanted to understand why the books were so valuable to her and all this time he’s just been burning them. So he starts reading the books and came to conclusion that they have a great value,
