the formula for distance is square root ( of the entire equation),, (x1-x2) squared +(y1-y2) squared so (-5-3)+(4-(-2)) ( both answers squared) equals -8 squared plus 6 squared and you get 64+36 which is 100 and the square root of 100 is 10. Hope that wasn't confusing
