Slaves were affected by the new Republic because some northern states made slavery against the law.
In the new republic, slavery was banned in some northern states in America which made it difficult for the slave owners to operate freely. In the South however, slavery was still very much popular and wasn't against the law and was more popular.
This was as a result of the hard work of the abolitionists in the North who sought an end to slave trade.
